Dr. Wenyang Zhang
Senior Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, Drive System Engineering at Tesla
The Future of EV Lubricant Development:
Tesla's Perspective
Tuesday, October 10, 10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
Dr. Zhang leads the fluid engineering (lubricant design, selection, specifications development, etc.), tribology, and lubricant related subjects for all current and future Tesla platforms. He also determines key lubrication parameters and designs, and is involved in cooling and lubrication designs of Tesla drive units.
Zhang is the recipient of multiple awards and serves as associate editor of ASME Journal of Tribology. He is a Certified Lubrication Specialist (CLS) from the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers and a Certified Lubricating Grease Specialist (CLGS) from the National Lubricating Grease Institute. He holds a bachelor of science degree in materials science and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering.
In his presentation, Dr. Zhang will discuss the state-of-the-art lubrication and cooling efforts for Tesla drive units, including the electric motor and gearbox. He will also briefly review Tesla’s vision for future development of EV lubrication and cooling.
